Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets are complete fixed-formula diets designed to provide all essential nutrients required by dogs to achieve efficient growth, maintenance, and reproduction. Protein from plant and animal sources provides the proper balance of essential amino acids to maintain efficient functioning of the dog's body throughout its life cycle. Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets also contain high-quality animal fat. Animal fat is an excellent source of concentrated energy and essential fatty acids required to promote and support the general condition of research dogs, lactating bitches, and growing puppies. Fat also enhances palatability. Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets are fortified with the proper amounts and balance of vitamins and minerals required to help regulate body systems and fluids, strengthen teeth and bones, and maintain good blood, skin, and coat condition. The diets are extruded to help break down starches. This results in improved digestibility and palatability. Since Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets are complete diets which will meet the nutritional needs of dogs during all phases of their life cycle, additional dietary supplements are unnecessary. Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets provide a selection of diets so you can choose the one that best meets your needs. Some diets are general purpose and could be fed to all life stages. Other diets are designed specifically for a particular life stage for those customers who prefer to feed a diet more tailored to a specific life stage. Feeding Directions---Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets are designed to be fed to dogs under research conditions. Select the feeding method which keeps the animal in the proper body condition. For very active dogs, allow ad libitum access to diet and, if necessary, feed moistened Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diet once a day. For normal dogs, use the self-feeding program or feed a controlled amount of Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diet (dry or moistened). The amount of food the research dog needs depends upon its size, age, breed, temperament, and amount of exercise. Feeding the Expectant Mother---It is very important that the expectant mother be fed nutritionally balanced food during pregnancy and lactation. Feed the pregnant bitch twice a day or ad libitum. Moisten the Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diet for her first few feedings after whelping. Thereafter, allow ad libitum access to diet and also feed her moistened food once a day. Feeding the Puppies---Puppies will start eating Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets (either moistened or dry) when they are about four weeks old. To encourage them to eat, add one cup water to each cup of dog food. Initially, feed the moistened food three times daily. The daily feedings (either dry or moistened) can be reduced to two as the puppies grow. The self-feeding program is ideal for puppies since they like to chew on dry food. They also can eat when they are hungry, assuring proper and adequate nutrition. Shelf Life---The recommended shelf life of Harlan Teklad Laboratory Dog Diets is six months from the date of manufacture. However, shelf life may be affected by storage conditions. To achieve optimum shelf life, store the diets in a cool, dry, pest-free area away from hazardous materials. |
