Certified diets ensure that your study complies with the FDA’s Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) requiring periodic feed analysis to ensure that contaminants known to be capable of interfering with a study are not present above those specified in the protocol. Our certified diets are made using the same formulas and high quality ingredients as non-certified diets. But in addition the diets are tested for the contaminants listed in Table I. The diet is also analyzed for the nutrients protein, fat, fiber, ash and moisture. Diets for guinea pigs and nonhuman primates are analyzed for vitamin C.

A sample representing each and every bag of a specific lot is analyzed by an independent laboratory. A Harlan Teklad nutritionist reviews the results and certifies the diet to contain not more than the established maximum level of environmental contaminants (Table I). Samples are maintained in a freezer for 18 months, allowing for additional analysis, upon request.

A Harlan Teklad certificate of analysis signed by the nutritionist is made available to the customer. Upon request, research personnel may obtain the actual certified contaminant assay provided by the independent laboratory.

Special Assays - Special assays of Harlan Teklad Certified Diets are also available to accommodate the following requirements:
• Special Contaminant Assays for certain environmental contaminants, when the entire certified profile is not required.
• Additional Assays to determine the levels of environmental contaminants or nutrients not included in the standard certification profile.

• Additional Product Certification Assays - Other products can be sampled and analyzed as certified diets on special order. Special assay costs will be charged based on costs at time of assay.

A limited number of certified diets are stocked. Any diet or other product can be certified upon request. Charges for analytical testing will apply and a minimum of 3 weeks lead time will be required. Contact Customer Service for pricing and availability.
